During Christmas Lights, we expect many children and vulnerable individuals to be present. To help create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, we kindly encourage all team members to hold a valid Blue Card or Exemption Card. Your support in this helps us maintain the highest standards of safety and care throughout the event.
In Queensland, you generally do not need a Blue Card if you work or volunteer with children for less than 7 days in a calendar year (1 January–31 December). However, this exemption does not apply if you are a Restricted Person.
The 7-day limit applies across all organisations combined, not just one. For example, if you volunteer 5 days at a school and 3 days at Christmas Lights, you exceed the exemption and must hold a Blue Card. A “day” counts even if it’s only part of a day.
It is vital that you apply for a Blue Card to serve at Christmas Lights.
