During Christmas Lights, we expect many children and vulnerable individuals to be present. To help create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, we kindly encourage team members to hold a valid Blue Card or Exemption Card.
Holding a Blue Card or Exemption Card is not mandatory as part of volunteering at Christmas Light, yet we encourage you to hold one.
If you do not have a Blue Card or Exemption Card, that's ok, you will simply be prompted to answer an additional question below.
Thank you for your support in helping us maintain the highest standards of safety and care throughout the event.
In Queensland, you generally do not need a Blue Card if you work or volunteer with children for less than 7 days in a calendar year (1 January–31 December). However, this exemption does not apply if you are a Restricted Person.
The 7-day limit applies across all organisations combined, not just one. For example, if you volunteer 5 days at a school and 3 days at Christmas Lights, you exceed the exemption and must hold a Blue Card. A “day” counts even if it’s only part of a day.
It is vital that you apply for a Blue Card to serve at Christmas Lights.
